About Orihuela

Once the capital of the area from Murcia to Alicante, Orihuela today is a historical inland town, untouched by tourism.

Where the streets are lined with orange trees and shady squares are fringed with ornate ‘Palacios’ and crumbling facades. The elegant buildings testify to the town’s rich heritage as an affluent university and cathedral city. A very pleasant place to soak up some culture. A must see is the magnificent Catalan Gothic cathedral, built on the site of an ancient mosque at the beginning of the 14th century.

Although Orihuela lies 30km inland, its municipal district encompasses 15km of coastline, which includes good beaches, such as Campoamor and La Zenia.
